Phi Delta Chi - Chi Chapter
Message From Faculty Advisor

Not long after I began working at the Harrison School of Pharmacy at Auburn University, I was asked if I was interested in serving as the Chi chapter’s faculty advisor. Although I had the privilege of assisting in starting a new chapter at my previous faculty position, others had taken the lead in the process and I felt this new opportunity was a great way to get involved with the students right away.

I joined PDC in the fall of 1997 as a first year pharmacy student at Campbell University. It was there that I got my first demonstration of brotherhood since there were only six of us in my pledge class and we certainly needed the help of each other to make it through the process. After initiation I served as WIG for two terms and it was very exciting to watch the group grow from a pledge class of six to regularly having pledge classes of 20 or more. Quantity of brothers is helpful, but we were also adding quality brothers who were excited about joining our fraternity and were involved on a local and regional level.

Shifting from a collegiate brother then to a faculty advisor now has taken me through a wonderful process and my appreciation for the fraternity grows each year that I am involved. It is exciting to get together with brothers new and old at national meetings and share ideas about how we can make our chapters better. It is rewarding to see the brothers be involved in bettering the community by working with local and national charitable organizations. And though it makes me feel a bit old, I enjoy being able to share my experiences as a brother with students as they mature and become professionals.

The immediate future of the Chi chapter is exciting to me. The current officers are dedicating to improving the chapter and bettering themselves as professionals. The formation of a new chapter at the satellite campus in Mobile is a terrific opportunity to grow the organization and collaborate with other students nearby.

I am thankful that I was asked to advise this great group of students and I look forward to many more years of “honoring Phi Delta Chi.”
